![]() There are four main arguments which 's articles offer to oppose child marriage: health risk for the mother and child, poverty cycle, pornography is irrelevant to child marriage and child marriage is an institutional violence. The war concerns the definition of child, especially girl (menstruation vs 18+) orientations to life (domestic vs public) and who owns the body (collective vs autonomy). ![]() Thus, Child Marriage could be perceived as non-existent or as social problem, depending on which side of cultural war the reader is on. The result of this research is even as tries to be counter-hegemony with its liberal feminism ideology, the alternative media unconsciously reproduces social inequality by taking some dominant discourses for granted as the arguments against Child Marriage are actually based on dominant discourses which repress women. To expose how the ideologies of powerful groups are unconsciously being perpetuated, this research analyzes ’s representation of child marriage with Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis and Cultural Studies. ![]() Child marriage is normalized in Indonesia due to support by the power of ideological institutions, especially religious institutions. Efforts to stop child marriage in Indonesia had been done since the 20th century, but 2015 University of Indonesia’s Center of Gender Studies’ research found that Indonesia has the second highest number of child marriage in South East Asia. Child marriage perpetuates gender inequality by subordinating women as sex objects for male and isolating women from public area. ![]()
